When my train got stuck for nearly three hours outside Bordeaux on the hottest afternoon of the summer, Europcar Biarritz were happy to change my reservation from their railway station location to their airport location without any fuss or extra charges. Staff at the desk gave helpful advice on which départements of France are well equipped with electric charging points and which are not. Last but not least, I was happy with the car itself. Overall, a positive experience and good value for money.

Dishonest Fuel Charges – Avoid Europcar I had a very disappointing experience with Europcar and cannot recommend them. One of the most frustrating aspects was their exploitative fuel policy. If you return the car with any fuel missing, they charge you €4.50 per liter, which is more than double the price at any regular petrol station (currently under €2 per liter). On top of that, they add a fixed refueling fee of €20, no matter how little fuel is needed. For example, if you’re only missing 10 liters, you’ll end up paying €65 in total — that’s €6.50 per liter, which is outrageous. This policy feels deliberately designed to overcharge customers, especially those in a rush or unfamiliar with the process. Between this and other hidden fees, I will never use Europcar again, and I strongly advise others to choose a more transparent and honest rental company.

This agency took my reservation well in advance, confirmed it, sent all the confirmation documents and then when we showed up, there was no car available for us. This caused us to have to go to their competitors and spend 3x the original fee because it was last second. They did absolutely nothing to make it right and basically told us it was our problem. The competitors told us that they have customers every week come to them with the same problem with this Europcar agency. Avoid at all costs.

Friendly service. Cars are usually pretty good quality. You can often get good discounts on your booking if you’re a bit flexible. The car park can get very confusing as it is large and shared with around 5 other hire companies.

If you wanna pay a 800 euro deposit that will block your card for days afterwards while paying 76 EU per day on a small, pos Fiat this is the place for you. If you want snakey service that revolves not on helping the customer but only on give me your money, this is the place for you. If you are looking for a company that will be looking for ways to keep your deposit, even if they can´t, this is it. If you want honesty and clean deals do not come here , EVER.
